All I want for Christmas

December, 2008

While December marks the season of giving, it’s hard not to get excited about the receiving side of it too. With this in mind, Winston-Salem Monthly asked a few of Forsyth County’s finest what they’re hoping to find under the tree this year.
Here’s what they had to say:

What gift are you hoping to receive this holiday season?

“I’d like a whole day with no e-mails!” —Dr. Anthony Atala, director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine

“The greatest gift is to stay home and be with loved ones.” —Martha Bassett, local musician

“My favorite gifts are experiences, not things.  Santa knows I love Jamaica.”  —Ronda Bumgardner, Winston-Salem Journal Ask SAM columnist

“I really need an electric fence for my two crazy dogs. They’re digging their way out of my backyard wooden fence.” —Brent Campbell, FOX 8 News reporter

“How about a nice box full of time — enough time to make my next album!”    —Jeffrey Dean Foster, local musician

“I’m hoping my basketball team can be 11-0 on the season.” —Dino Gaudio, Wake   Forest University men’s basketball coach

“I’d like another good year for Sawtooth School for Visual Art ...  and a bookshelf.” —Sherri Nielson, executive director of Sawtooth School for Visual Art

“I would love to get some kind of device that translates what teenagers are saying.  I’m not sure what language they’re speaking these days, but I’m certain it’s not English.” —Jon Lowder, blogger

“I hope to get the following gifts: a new outdoor hot tub for my house, as much chocolate as I can possibly stand, and world peace (not necessarily in that order)!” —Robert Moody, Winston-Salem Symphony musical director

“I would like a fully loaded Visa® gift card to use on dining at restaurants in the Triad for an entire year. Of course, I have a few friends who will likely try to mooch off me.” —Jeff Smith, Smitty’s Notes

“I’d like a long winter’s nap!” —Angie Ward, 104.1 WTQR disc jockey

“I’m not really hoping for anything. I would hope that during the season we would all remember how blessed we are individually and as a community.”—Dudley Watts, Forsyth County Manage
