Janice Barron, Miss North Carolina, clipped the green ribbon to officially open Reynolda Manor Shopping Center on February 28, 1963. Among the 22 businesses that composed the center were Spainhour’s, Colonial Store, Arcade Fashion Shop, Hinkle’s Book Store, Eckerd Drugs, Bud Smith’s Flowers, Lamberti’s Beauty Salon, and W. T. Grant Company. Two of the original stores, Camel City Laundry and Dewey’s Bakery, exist today among the many new tenants in the expanding shopping center on Reynolda Road.
